Lon has been an avid photographer since he was a teenager.  His father gave him his first  Olympus 35 mm SLR camera at the age of 15.  This was the beginning of his fascination with nature and photography.  Flowers, trees, mountains, and deserts were his favorite subjects.

He was inspired by Josef Muench and his son David.  The move to Arizona in 1975 gave him a whole state full of new compositions.  The Grand Canyon alone, is overflowing with beautiful scenery.  Cactus and their blossoms, fall colors in the White Mountains, streams and rivers abound.  Wildflowers on the slopes of the nearby Superstition Mountains  are readily available in the Spring.

Hiking and Rafting the Canyon, is Lon's passion.  He would go to the Backcountry, hiking 12 miles to Tapeats Creek to shoot some of his best work.  Rafting the Grand Canyon with his inspiration, David Muench, has been a highlight of his life.

Indulging in the books of Edward Abbey, Everett Ruess and Craig Childs, Lon has learned to appreciate Nature and it's gift of Solitude.  This has driven him to become One with his surroundings and enables him to see something Extraordinary in his Subject.
